What is SEO?

Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of making pages as relevant as possible, so that search engines (Google, Yahoo!, Bing...) perceive them to be valuable enough to be considered for top rankings for as many key-phrases as possible in organic listings.

There is no exact formula for getting to #1 on Google, but it basically boils down to the reputation of your website and how relevant pages are to keyword queries. This of course needs to be manipulated to get the most out of your site, and that’s where Barndance Creative comes in.

Are you getting the most out of your website?

Every business owner or entrepreneur wants to see their website on the first page of search engine search results. When you partner with Barndance Creative for SEO services, I work with a vengeance to turn your wants into reality. By staying current with industry trends and efficiently utilizing SEO best-practices, I have developed a strategy that aligns the art and science of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) with the creation and curation of content developed specifically for each client.

What exactly are SEO services?

In general, businesses seek an SEO consultant or agency to optimize their website and internet presence. SEO services may include:

  • On-Page SEO

  • Off-Page SEO

  • Video SEO for YouTube and Vimeo

  • Social Media Marketing

  • Location Data Management

  • Authority link-building

  • Copywriting

  • Social Media Marketing

  • Influencer Outreach

  • Competive Analysis

  • Keyword Research

Local SEO – Jackson, MS and Surrounding Areas

Local SEO is the process of optimizing your website and social media properties (including business directory listings and ratings/review site profiles) to rank highly in searches applicable to a specific geographic region. For example, someone searching for 'air conditioning repair', 'business tax prep' or 'jackson seo company' probably wants to connect with a service provider within close proximity of their location.

In 2010 Google Places listings (also known as Google Maps and now Google+ Local) were added to Page One of the SERPs for queries deemed to be relevant to local businesses. It is increasingly important that bricks-and-mortar establishments and mobile service businesses instrument their websites and business listings to take advantage of local search.

The level of effort required for Local SEO is far less than that necessary for regular organic SEO. It involves creating business pages on Google+ Local, Bing Local, Foursquare, Facebook, Yahoo! Local; and optimizing profiles and posts for your location and major keywords. This should also be done for any local business directories such as the Chamber of Commerce and local directory listings. Creating and managing these listings can be a tedious and technically difficult effort. Barndance Creative currently provides location data development and maintenance for multiple clients in the Jackson, MS area.

So... you want to rank #1?

Barndance Creative can’t, and will never promise a top ranking on the first page of search results for any business. No one can guarantee #1 rankings. During your search for a Jackson SEO agency, it is a definite red flag if any company guarantees a #1 ranking for your business.

Having said that, I currently have a 100% success rate for ranking client web pages on the first page of Google (many of them #1 on the first page), and the same can be said for Youtube video rankings as well.

What does a monthly SEO marketing plan include:

Technical Strategy/Website Audit:

(Technical Code Review, Duplicate Content Review, Site Performance Review, Search Engine Index Review, Authority and Trust Review) My team combs through your website looking for any SEO structural deficiencies that may be preventing your website from achieving its full potential in search. Some of the items we look at are coding/architecture, page speed, content quality, and backlink profile. This document influences decisions made on coding improvement requests, content changes, and backlink health.

On-Page SEO:

(Meta Data Strategy) Optimize Title Tags, Meta Descriptions, and URLs around targeted keywords. Make sure there is proper use of H1 tags. Optimize pages that use focus keywords in the file name of images along with the title and alt tags. Add H2 and H3 tags for structured content to be more accessible. Schema code markup. Page Speed insight and recommendations - some but not limited to the following: Minimize HTTP Requests, reduce server response time, enable compression, enable browser caching, minify resources, optimize images, optimize CSS delivery, prioritize above-the-fold content, reduce the number of plugins used on your site, reduce redirects, and structured data markup to create rich snippets. Canonicalize multiple URLs through Rel=canonical best practices. Ongoing content review to ensure there are not issues with thin or duplicate content.

Sitemap recommendations

Example: If you have both a sitemap.xml and a robots.txt file on your website, it is a good practice to place a link to your sitemap.xml in your robots.txt, which will allow search engines to better understand what content they should crawl

On-going technical advice

(Example: Internal Linking) It is important to cross-link within the pages of your site using keyword rich anchor text, though you should do so sparingly. Pages of similar topics should cross link to each other using the keywords of those pages in the anchor text. We recommend 2-3 keyword rich internal links on any given page. In addition to linking from within the text of a page, keyword relevant anchor text should be used in the main navigation elements.

Where space prevents the use of a relevant keyword for the page being linked to in the navigation, it is important to include the title element in the anchor tag. Approximately 15-30% of all inbound links from blogs, forums, press releases, or any other external link building should include the keyword of the page being linked to in the anchor text of the link (or a close variation). General Q&A addressing pressing issues of any SEO related topics.

Content:

(SEO Content Pages or Revisions, Content Review) Quality optimized content is an important piece for SEO. Utilizing our findings from the website audit and competitor analysis, my team will determine which pages need content improvements. From there we will write the content and present it to you for approval. The focus will usually revolve around the homepage and product/service pages as those are the pages that really matter for ranking purposes as they are the pages that will generate revenue.

Content Development Process:

The first step in our on-page content optimization process is to ensure your website is properly targeting keywords/phrases based on the insight we received during our kick-off meeting and our own research of your industry. It's not always just about getting visitors to your site, but about getting the right kind of visitors. We want to focus on what will deliver conversions for you.

To provide you the best opportunity to improve your organic positioning, a key tactic in our strategic SEO process is to analyze the copy on your core pages to ensure they are meeting the needs of both your consumers and Google. We identify the core keyword(s) that are being targeted on each page. Next, we analyze the top 10 organic ranking webites for those core keyword(s) with emphasis on use of semantically related words, content length, and readability - ensuring copy answers user questions.

Lastly, we compare what the competition does and use that to develop strategic ideation on how we can adjust or create copy to be better aligned with the websites that already perform well for those term(s)

Link Building:

(Authoritative Link Building/Link Placements, Premium Directory Submissions, Linkable Asset Development: Infographic/Guide, Linkable Asset Promotion: Outreach Campaigns, Linkable Asset Promotion: Press Releases).

Using a variety of sources, we compile a list of links that are pointing to your website. From there we take the link and analyze each link to make sure they meet our minimum quality guidelines. If they don’t meet our standards they will be placed in a disavow file and submitted to Google to prevent/remediate any algorithmic issues related to the backlink profile.

Linkable Assets:

Encouraging other websites to link to your own is extremely important with SEO. One of the methods we use is what we call “Linkable Assets”. These can come in a variety of forms such as resourceful content, informative/interesting infographics, and surveys/research data. These “Assets” are not meant to sell your product/service and will not contain any content that could be considered salesy. Their sole purpose is to encourage other websites to link to yours to build your link profile.

Traffic to your site from these linking sites can occur, but traffic and sales should be viewed as a bonus. The “Assets” most likely will not talk about your specific products/services, but they will be thematically relevant to your industry.

Link Building Outreach:

My link building team almost acts like a Digital PR Agency for our clients. The exception is that the primary goal is to gain links versus spreading the word about a product or service. We contact various websites that are related to your niche or have written on related topics in the past. We may try to pitch story ideas, linkable assets, or try to get your business listed on a preexisting page. We will also seek out unlinked brand mentions of your business and encourage an updating the article to include a link.

This is a very time consuming process and usually has single digit percentage returns of success, but the outcome produces highly valuable links that will power a website in the search results. In the first month, extensive research is performed and some outreach will begin. Even though you should see links in the first two months, most campaigns will start to see a steady number of new links around the third month and beyond as the number of outreach attempts continue to build and messaging has been tweaked to improve effectiveness. Additional details regarding our Link Building process (also referred to as “Off-Page SEO”) can be found below:

Data Driven Content Outreach: Whenever possible, we love to work with content that has a heavy data component. If there is data that is interesting, and can appeal to a substantial audience, there are numerous opportunities for high quality links.

Unlinked Brand Mentions: Press mentions are great from public relations perspective, but if they don’t link back to your website, you don’t receive maximum credit for organic search. Large or emerging brands traditionally have opportunities for outreach to online publications or blogs, to request a link back to the brand from the editors/authors.

Content Outreach: Content outreach is an effective tool for building backlinks. Sometimes that involves creating a piece of content for your business, and then pitching it to various publications, or it could involve pitching story ideas. In the instances where a story idea is pitched, we may be asked to write an article as a contributor.

Competitor Profile Outreach: Acquiring links that competitors have in their profile is a traditional staple in link building. Not only does it provide a great link back to the website, but it also shows Google that you should be in the same conversation and consideration as your competitors.

Resource Lists: Another staple of link building is finding niche related resource lists and acquiring links for your website. Many of these opportunities present themselves when analyzing competitor link profiles.
